Drop Me A Line
It’s More Fun In Costume!
Drop Me A Line Costume Shop first opened for business in 1980 as a 400 sq. ft. card and stationary store, in center city Allentown. This is the reason for the unusual name that doesn’t necessarily relate to the costume business. The Business was sold to the present owners on October 4, 1987. At that time it was in a larger store of about 1000 sq. feet. A small portion of that space was devoted to costumes and accessories (of which we knew nothing). Drop Me A Line Costume Shop’s first month in business we fell in love with Halloween, and our course was set. In 1990 we started to rent costumes and leased a two-bedroom apartment behind the store. It was the 100-yard dash every time we rented a costume. This didn’t work! Then in 1991 we rented the store next door a 2500 sq. foot space that fulfilled our needs. Two years later we took back our original store and created a passageway between the two stores. We now had a permanent home for our rental stock.
In August of 2000 we purchased a larger building and changed the name to Drop Me A Line Costume Shop. We now have a location of over 5000 sq. ft, at 1050 Lehigh Street, in South Allentown, with plenty of parking. Currently, we have about three thousand costumes and we are adding to this stock monthly.
We have been active members of the National Costumers Association since 1993. Since being accepted in the N.C.A. we have attended numerous conventions and have taken many hours of classes on the costuming business. Although we certainly don’t know it all, we have come a long way from our humble beginnings. If in the unlikely event we can’t costume you, we are friends with over one hundred costumers nationwide. I’m sure we can help you find what you want.
